Fragmented Objects: Abstraction Through Scale
Assignment
Crop a portion of an existing object and recreate your composition as a 3D model. Alter the scale so as to abstract the portion of the object. Alternate: Combine 1 portions of 3 different objects into one cohesive design. Design must be larger than 12” in all directions.
Objectives
Demonstrate abstraction beginning with a representational object.
Learn how Simple shapes are used to create volume.
Understand the effect of altering scale.
Create a well crafted, and balanced 3D design.
Materials and Tools
Choose one raw material. Must be monochromatic. foam core, exacto knives, tape, strong adhesive/ hot glue, wood laminate (no thicker than 1/4 in)? bandsaw? chop saw? fabric? sewing machine? ETC.
